The making of Axia

Heritage & Terroir

Mastiha is a resin cultivated from the mastic tree, and has been produced exclusively on the Aegean island of Chios for c.2,500 years. A close relation of the Pistachio, Mastic trees are grown on the south side of Chios due to its favourable micro-climate. It takes 20 years for a tree to be fully mature and provide a good yield (150-180g!) of the coveted mastic resin.

Revered for its natural flavour and wellbeing properties, this resin remains incredibly valuable - a fitting inspiration for the name Axia, meaning “value” or “worth” in Greek. It's even been used as a snakebite anti-venom - a potent elixir from which our spirit has been inspired.

Flavour profile

Axia is a refreshing, botanically complex, extra-dry spirit at 40% ABV, crafted to shine in classic cocktails, long drinks, or simply over ice. On the nose, it opens with fresh, aromatic botanicals layered with citrus, delicate pink roses, and the herbal lift of green peppercorn, grounded by the earthiness of Mediterranean cypress. The palate follows with bright notes of pine, evoking coastal Mediterranean forests, balance by a subtle grapefruit bitterness. The finish lingers with the soft roundness of bergamot, leaving a smooth, velvety mouthfeel that invites another sip.
