Kyriaki Dachtyloudi for Axia | Trailblazing women redefining the drinks industry
This International Women’s Day, Axia is shining a spotlight on the trailblazing women redefining the drinks industry. Throughout March, we’re showcasing female mixologists and industry leaders across London, New York, and Athens—women who bring creativity, expertise, and a bold perspective to their craft.
Through a series of interviews, we’re sharing their journeys, inspirations, and impact, offering a glimpse into the passion and talent shaping the future of cocktails. Follow along as we celebrate those who push boundaries and step beyond the ordinary.
What's your signature cocktail, and how does it represent your personal style behind the bar?
I could easily say that my signature cocktail is the Vodka Martini, a drink that embodies my belief in the power of simplicity. I use some of the finest vodkas in the market, paired with just the right amount of dry vermouth, and finished with a twist of lemon or an olive, depending on the occasion.
The Vodka Martini represents my approach behind the bar — precision, quality, and elegance. It's about delivering a clean, crisp experience that allows the purity of the vodka to take centre stage, while the balance of flavours remains the star. For me, the beauty of a great Vodka Martini lies in its straightforwardness, proving that sometimes less really is more.

As a female mixologist, what challenges have you faced and how have you overcome them?
As a female mixologist, one of the biggest challenges I’ve faced is overcoming the stereotype that bartending is a male dominated profession.
When I first started out, I often felt that my ability was questioned or that I had to work harder to prove myself compared to my male colleagues. In a traditionally male space, there were times when I was overlooked or underestimated, and it could be frustrating. However, I learned to lean into those challenges and turn them into opportunities to showcase my hospitality, knowledge, creativity, and attention to detail.
Ultimately, I’ve realised that creating an inclusive, respectful, and collaborative environment behind the bar benefits everyone. By embracing who I am and supporting others along the way, I’ve not only overcome challenges but turned them into stepping stones that have shaped me into a more confident, well-rounded professional.

What's one piece of advice you'd give to women looking to break into the drinks industry?
My advice would be to stay passionate, persistent, and always hungry for knowledge. The drinks industry can be tough, but dedication to honing your craft and staying authentic will help you stand out.
Don’t hesitate to seek mentorship and build a network of support, especially with other women who understand the challenges. The more you invest in learning and growing, the more doors will open, and the stronger your presence will become.
